Birth Partner Massage
Birth Partner Massage for Labour
Massage is one of the most valuable tools a birth partner can bring into the labour room. In
this one-hour private session, you and your partner will learn simple, effective techniques to
promote relaxation, relieve pain, and support your body through labour.
For many birth partners — especially those attending a birth for the first time — this session
can feel deeply empowering. You’ll be guided through a range of techniques that support
comfort, enhance oxytocin, encourage a sense of safety, and help your baby move into an
optimal position for birth. Together, we will practise each technique until you both feel
confident, comfortable, and ready for the big day.
The beauty of this work is that I encourage you to practise the techniques regularly (ideally
daily). This means the mother-to-be receives a nurturing mini massage each day, helping to
ease late pregnancy aches and pains while strengthening your connection and confidence
as a team.
“Bella’s birth partner massage was an incredibly positive experience. The gentle
support she gave during the session was invaluable and the massage became a
really positive and proactive way for us to spend time together in a period of
uncertainty. As the birth partner I found it especially empowering to have a way to
support my partner in the weeks before and during the birth.” Luke, Oxford
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Any time after 33 weeks is ideal, as it gives you plenty of time to practise the techniques.
However, you are welcome to come at any stage right up until birth — the tools can still be learned and used.
-
Absolutely. Regular practice can encourage your baby into an optimal position, which may
reduce the likelihood of more intervention. The techniques can also be helpful in early
labour, before an epidural if you choose one, and for easing general pregnancy discomfort in the final weeks.
-
You will be fully clothed throughout the session. Please wear comfortable clothing, as we will be exploring a few different positions.
-
This is very common! The techniques are simple, adaptable, and designed to feel natural.
We will move at a relaxed pace, checking in with what feels best for you. If helpful, we can
focus on just a few key techniques so your partner feels confident and at ease. The session is always informal, supportive, and pressure-free.
